About Plend

For too long, the credit system has been a game of chance. At Plend, we’re on a mission to level the playing field of loans, giving everyone a chance to access a loan they can afford.

We’re proudly a B-Corp company and are dedicated to making a positive impact in everything we do. We are searching for a Credit Risk Associate to join our team and support us in our mission of promoting financial inclusivity.

Role overview

As a Credit Risk Associate, you’ll be reporting to our Credit Risk Manager, where you’ll assess risk and underwrite credit applications in accordance with Plend’s Lending Policy and risk appetite while delivering the highest level of customer service.

You’ll have a minimum of 2 years loan underwriting experience and proven competency, have worked in the near prime consumer lending market and have a high level understanding of consumer credit lending regulations. If you’ve had experience assessing applications using Open Banking, that’s a bonus.

We’re looking for somebody who’s highly customer centric and has a keen eye for detail and problem solving. Naturally, you’ll be a quantitative and analytical thinker, with a passion for great customer outcomes.

Day to day you'll be:

  • Credit Evaluation: underwrite loan applications, reviewing open banking data, credit reports, and other relevant data to determine applicant creditworthiness
  • Risk Assessment: Analyse risk factors associated with each application, balancing the need for growth with the responsibility of managing risk
  • Decision Making: Make informed lending decisions within set approval limits, escalating complex cases as needed
  • Compliance: Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with regulatory requirements and company policies
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the credit committee to refine and improve our underwriting criteria and processes
  • Customer Interaction: Occasionally interact with customers to clarify information and provide explanations regarding underwriting decisions
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to continuously improve the underwriting process

Requirements

Essential requirements:

  • 2 years loan underwriting experience
  • High level of consumer credit lending regulations

Preferred requirements:

  • Near prime underwriting experience
  • Assessing applications with Open Banking data

It’s also important that you’re ambitious and ready to get your hands dirty. Working in a fast paced, start-up environment means that you’re likely to get involved in other parts of the business and there can be times when it’s all hands on deck!

As part of joining the team, you’ll also have access to the below perks:

  • Equity Options - own a piece of Plend!
  • Remote working now, hybrid working early 2025
  • 40 days total annual leave (how good is this, right?) plus your Birthday off 🥳
